Dietary Planning Guide - 5 Steps to weight loss success

Dietary planning is the key to your weight loss program, yet many still do not plan their diet...or any part of their weight loss progression.

Think about it: You are heading out on a long road trip to a place you have never been to before.  You have no map.  You have no place to stay.  You don't know exactly where the place is.  You are not quite sure what the place will look like.

So how the hell are you going to find it?!?!?!

The same thing is true with your weight loss diet.

Dietary planning is essential.

Here are the 5 Steps to Reach your Weight Loss Goal:

1.  Know exactly what your goal is.

You need to know the details that you are going to accomplish, and the details about each....Have a target!

target for goals

  • How many pounds are you going to lose?
  • What pant or dress size will you wear?
  • What body fat percentage will you be at?

Write it down and start the plan...call it your road map to successful weight loss.  This is your guide.

2.  Know exactly how long it will take.

how long for your dietary planning

For the numbers, figure that you can lose between 1-2 pounds per week with a strict diet, proper cardiovascular exercise, and good solid resistance training.

The first few weeks, you will lose more...And the closer you get/are to your goal, the slower the results will be.

Write it down...what is your timeline...set a date and write it everywhere.

3.  Know what the end result will look like.

know your end result

You must be able to picture the "New You," and make it a burning image of the "New You."

Without a vivid picture burned in your mind, your mind won't believe that you actually can and will do it.

Make your picture real.  (my picture wouldn't be Arnold S. because I don't have the genetic structure...if you are short, don't picture a tall person...get it?)

Picture the real new you...and it CAN be a picture of an "old you" when you were in great shape!

4.  Make a map and plan your journey.

Write everything down, in detail.  This is your roadmap to success.  Read it, review it, make notes on it, change it as needed...make it a lifework.

goals setting

Your plan should include goals and plans in detail for:

  • Overall goal and outcome (long term goal)
  • Midterm goals (maybe every 3 months?)
  • Monthly
  • Weekly
  • Daily

The more detail you put down on paper, the more you work on it during the trip...the more your mind will believe it and achieve it!

5.  Know why you want to lose weight

WHY?  Without a reason why, you have no leverage on your mind and you will fall back to your old ways faster than Charlie Sheen goes back to rehab!

We want success...I want to know you were successful...you can do it and all you need is a plan.

Don't overanalyze this stuff, just do it!

What is the worst that could happen?  You need to recalculate things as you go?  Big deal!  Just get started.

Let me know your plan or your comments AND your successes!

You said it very well. One must "make a plan in order to stay on plan." LOVE that you included having a "meaningful why" is essential when creating your plan - blog on this myself A LOT - so may I add that meaningful whys change over time. Creating and monitoring a "fitegic plan" allows us to make adjustments when necessary and overcome obstacles to achieving our goals.
