GETTING PHYSICAL - WITH YOUR LOCAL FITNESS INSTRUCTOR!

(SAN JOSE, CA October 4, 2010) -- If you like reality TV shows, you may have heard that fitness trainer Fernanda Rocha will be a part of next season's "The Real Housewives of Orange County."

In fact, it seems like every time you open the paper or turn on the TV, you learn of a personal fitness instructor whipping yet another celebrity into shape.

But what about those of us living in the real world, not just on reality TV?

“Based on what you see or read you may think that only the wealthy and the famous work out with personal trainers. That’s absolutely not the case,” says Brett Riesenhuber, a trainer at Prime Physique Fitness & Adventure Boot Camp in San Jose, CA. “Most people who hire fitness instructors are NOT celebrities.”

Riesenhuber, who trains people of all ages, walks of life, and fitness levels, says that even in economically precarious times, hiring a trainer is a good investment because of personalized service and tangible results clients can expect from working with an experienced pro.

“Every body is different and needs a different kind of workout,” he points out. “When you work with your own fitness instructor, the exercises are specifically tailored to your lifestyle, as well your health and fitness objectives. That approach is not something you will get in a group setting, and even less so if you exercise on your own.”

As a matter of fact, studies indicate that personal instructors provide an important service by helping people stick to their exercise regimen more effectively. A special report released in 2007 by Harvard Medical School, arguably one of the nation's most reputable medical institutions, also points to the importance of hiring a certified personal trainer to help clients develop – and maintain - a well-rounded workout routine.

“Quite often, people want to get in shape but don’t know what kind of exercises are best for their particular goals, whether losing weight, firming up, increasing their strength and agility, or improving their cardiovascular health,” Riesenhuber says. “So they just put their body through random paces and then get discouraged when they don’t see results.”

That is where a certified trainer can help you figure out what exercises are most effective for what you want to accomplish.

“You’d be surprised at how many people exercise incorrectly. Not only will they not see the desired results, but they can actually end up hurting themselves,” Riesenhuber says. “This is especially true for people who are beginners trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. A trainer will not only show you the ropes but also help you avoid bodily harm and injuries that can be inflicted by incorrect moves.”

Another benefit of working with a fitness expert is maintaining your motivation level. “If you exercise alone, you may be tempted to throw in the towel – especially if you don’t immediately see the results you hoped for,” Riesenhuber says. “But your trainer will be there every step of the way to encourage and support you. When it comes to your health and fitness, your trainer will be your best buddy.”
